Weingut Karthäuserhof

Ruwer

Overlooking the Ruwer valley, Karthäuserhof is the 8th oldest winegrowing estate in the world and a founding member of the VDP

Officially founded as a monastery in 1335, this "Farm of the Carthusians" was given as a gift to the order who cultivated the vine for over 400+ years before redistribution of land by Napoleon. The same family has now owned the estate since 1811

The monopole Karthäuserhofberg has been recognized since 1886 as a vineyard of highest classification and is registered as VDP Grosse Lage (equivalent to Grand Cru)

The Karthäuserhofberg faces south by southwest and stretches up to 254m asl with gradients up to 55%. The unique microclimate of the area, plus the distinctive Devonian slate in the soil, has created the ideal combination for producing unforgettable wines
